The municipality of Milan has decided to hand over the Ambrogino d’Oro 2014 (Civic Merit) to the Director Fernando Burgo, founder of the first Istituto di Moda Burgo in Milan in 1961. Fernando Burgo is also author of the first and most popular manuals of fashion design, pattern making and tailoring: Il Figurino di Moda and Il Modellismo Sartoriale. Its Fashion Institute, with offices throughout Italy and in many foreign countries, teaches the basics of fashion design and tailoring to thousands of students around the world, creating jobs and giving luster to a primacy of Milan.

So, now IMB Qatar is the 18th center for “Instituto Di Moda Burgo Milano”, Italy, that signifies the place of learning where creativity and innovation starts with new ideas and concepts and embraces the new talents in the world of fashion and arts. We are committed to academic excellence in fashion and arts education.
The vision of the institute embraces challenges and provides the impetus in setting highest academic and industry standards. The Academy seeks to serve all the different nationalities and communities by offering training programs in fashion and arts. The center trains and qualifies the youth and ladies to enter the world of competition and raises their high spirit of business and ethics into the society from their learned skills. Our Books
The school equipment consists of books and rulers, and has been patented by the Istituto di Moda Burgo. It’s provided free to all students.
Among all there are two books, Il Modellismo and Il Figurino. They in fact are born thanks to the experience accumulated over the years and several previous editions. These manuals are considered cornerstones of teaching and are the pride of the Institute. The texts are constantly updated by industry experts and represent the best that you can find on the market. The study programs contained therein are modern, complete and exclusive. They deal with all matters relating to the sector: from fashion design to the practical realization of the dress.
Il Figurino di Moda
Thanks to the quality and simplicity of its illustrations, this book has become an essential tool for Fashion Designers from all over the world who can draw important information and suggestions for the creation of sketches and fashion collections. The manual consists of 400 pages, containing 210 drawings and 195 sketches and includes womenswear, menswear, childrenswear, lingerie, swimwear, but also shoes, jewelry and accessories. Starting from the human figure model to the body moving, the book analyzes in detail all aspects of the face and body. In it are then outlined the main techniques of coloring and rendering. In one section there are the technical drawings, which are necessary to the realization of a fashion collection. The text concludes with a history of early and contemporary fashion, from ancient Egyptian civilization to the designers who have marked the twentieth century. A well-structured index allows the teacher to follow the program of study during the course.
Il Modellismo
One of the most important and famous books in the pattern making world, this volume is for over 20 years a point of reference in the sector at international level, and therefore translated into more than 10 languages. The work of teachers is supported by this book that thanks to a simple and clear vocabulary makes the learning of pattern making techniques easier. The book is used in both the tailoring and industrial system. Its 464 pages illustrate a diverse multitude of patterns for women’s clothing, menswear, childrenswear, lingerie, swimwear, wedding dresses, premaman. The first part is about the study of measurements and fit of the garments, followed by the construction of the bases and all dart in transfer options. The text concludes with a section dedicated to the pattern grading and industrial method, and with the main concepts of fibers, yarns, fabrics and materials.
